Sketching in ink on paper has a long tradition in both Western and Eastern cultures. It particularly lends itself to outdoor sketching as the materials required are minimal; all you need is pen and some paper! In this offering you can see the difference and similarities of the two cultural influences as the work of Hiroshi and Kevin explore the possibilities, From a simple sketch the work can be adapted or used as a basis for more developed pieces in situ, or back in the studio. Sketches can be enhanced by the use of shading and/or colour, resulting in a unique and fresh piece of art. Come and explore the possibilities this mode of art offers.

A quick sketch from a recent trip to California using a Micron graphic pen 005 to get a feel for the layout (5" x 7" paper). After considering the composition from the sketch I made some adjustments before adding ink washes to try and capture the misty mood. (9" x 12" watercolour paper)
